Natural Gas Plant

Las Vegas, US

The interoperability between structural engineering tools plays a key role in the success of infrastructure projects. In the following case, IDEA StatiCa and Checkbot helped CSF Consulting to save 900-man hours. Checkbot worked as a translator to communicate between STAAD.Pro and IDEA StatiCa connection, transferring hundreds of nodes and thousands of load combinations, avoiding any load input errors. The structural design process started in STAAD.Pro, where the global structure was analyzed and designed. Using the Checkbot app within STAAD, the entire structure can be imported into Checkbot. Finally, IDEA StatiCa will open every node with the geometry and load combinations where the connection can be modeled and designed. The following article shows how CSF Consulting took advantage of the interoperability in a Natural Gas plant structural design.

Photovoltaic canopy steel structure, California

Photovoltaic canopy steel structure, California

Napa County, California

By leveraging IDEA StatiCa, KPFF Consulting Engineers successfully designed a photovoltaic canopy structure for the Napa Valley Transit Authority that not only met their sustainability goals but also adhered to rigorous engineering standards, ensuring safety and durability for years to come. This project stands as a testament to the effectiveness of integrating advanced engineering software with innovative design solutions in achieving sustainable infrastructure development.

26-Story Office Tower Transformation Project

26-Story Office Tower Transformation Project

Columbus, Ohio

The Continental Center Building conversion required extensive modifications to floor beams for new mechanical systems, with web openings that fell outside standard AISC design guidelines. IMEG's engineering team turned to advanced computational analysis to solve this complex structural puzzle, employing IDEA StatiCa's detailed stress modeling to develop precise reinforcement strategies for beam penetrations that fell outside traditional prescriptive methods.

The Queen's Wharf Skydeck

The Queen's Wharf Skydeck

Brisbane, Australia

The Queen's Wharf Skydeck was designed to become the must-see destination for those seeking spectacular views of Brisbane. Perched 100 meters above the Brisbane River, upon completion, the Skydeck will provide an open-air observation deck and public realm between the towers of the Queen's Wharf Development, offering panoramas of the river, South Bank Parklands and city skyline.

Walking Columns on the Laurel Rittenhouse Square Project

Walking Columns on the Laurel Rittenhouse Square Project

Philadelphia

Walking columns present significant engineering challenges with no established ACI 318 methodology to guide their design. IMEG has mastered this specialized field through projects like The Laurel Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, where walking columns gradually transition loads over four floors to preserve a historic building while supporting 40+ stories above.

Family home in Massachusetts

Family home in Massachusetts

Martha’s Vineyard island

CRAFT Engineering Studio worked closely with Selldorf Architects on this single-family residence. The project consists of three different buildings – the main house, garage, and pool house. With an open architectural design and unpropped balcony, the two-story building of the main house sits on a steep bluff overlooking the ocean, exposing it to high winds and introducing numerous challenges in terms of the structural design of the vertical and lateral load resisting systems. Originally conceived in steel, both the client and architect wished to move to a predominantly wood solution.

MassDOT Solar Carports, Plymouth

MassDOT Solar Carports, Plymouth

Plymouth, MA

By integrating IDEA StatiCa into the design process, the KPFF Consulting Engineers project for Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Solar Carports not only achieved its structural goals but also set a new standard for precision and efficiency in engineering design. The software’s advanced capabilities allowed for a more thorough understanding of complex behaviors, resulting in a robust and reliable photovoltaic (PV) canopy structure. This project stands as a testament to the effectiveness of modern engineering tools in overcoming challenging design scenarios and delivering high-quality, sustainable infrastructure solutions.
